May the Honeymoon be with you!
Tia Maria & Tim Rose left the cold and wet UK behind in January as they escaped on their Caribbean Honeymoon to the NEW Sandals Resort in Grenada and were happy to tell Travel by Lesley all about it on their return….
Our Honeymoon at Sandals Grenada
Although we married in April 2013, due to work commitments we could not have our honeymoon until January 2014 - its handy when you know someone in travel, so it was with much anticipation, and with lots of help from our wedding gift list organised by Lesley, we left the UK for sunny Grenada, at last! and we we were quite happy to get away from the continuous rain that had been plaguing Britain for weeks!
Our check in at London Gatwick was smooth and efficient and our wait was massaged by the services of the VIP Lounge: a wedding present from Lesley and a lovely relaxed way to start our journey
Our Virgin Atlantic flight to Grenada seemed to take no time at all – partly due, I think, to my watching back to back episodes of hit crime drama Broadchurch: which I had missed at the time it was originally aired and which I was desperate to see – thank you Virgin Atlantic!
It seemed that, no sooner had we landed in Grenada we were enjoying the welcoming glass of Champagne at the newly opened Sandals La Source resort!
We were fortunate enough to have a suite in the Italian Village (one of 3 “villages” at this brand new Sandals Resort) and wow! What a suite of rooms it was! Our own infinity pool on one of our balconies, our own wet bar are just two of the outstanding facilities that we moved in to! It was really luxurious and just brought a big smile to our faces when we walked in. We immediately knew this was going to be an amazing honeymoon and a great trip!
One of our Sandals butlers, the lovely Marcus, then showed us around the resort and asked where wanted to dine that night, so he could make reservations. This set the tone of the whole 10 days: nothing was too much trouble for Marcus and Don (the other member of the team): from serving us delicious cocktails on the beach to booking spa treatment, we did not have to worry about anything. On several days we walked into our suite to find rose petals scattered on the floor and the bed and towel “sculptures” left for us. It was so romantic.
We filled our honeymoon days with lazing on the beach, swimming in the warm sea and chatting to new friends - when we were not eating at one of the 7 themed restaurants at the resort! Food is a big thing to us, especially on holiday, and each meal had was nothing short of 5*!! Our favourites included the Surf n' Turf at Butch's and the smoked salmon Benedict for Breakfast at Le Rendezvous, the French restaurant.
At Sandals La Source there are many activities included and we enjoyed the sailing with help from the chaps at the water sports centre; The hobie cats were especially fun - there seemed to be just the right amount of off shore breeze to give you an adrenaline rush without compromising safety.
We did manage to peel ourselves form a sun lounger and the Caribbean sunshine on day 3 and take a trip around the island by jeep – which, with our guide, was both informative and fun. We stopped off at a sulphur pool for a dip and a rub with the yellow stones which apparently have anti-aging properties: (My husband said I looked 20 years younger when I got out – but I think he was being kind!) Later that day we then went on a wild river tubing experience which was exhilarating and fun – but we had to leave our dignity with our flip flops: but no one seemed to mind as everyone on the trip were friends by this time

The Island of spice is very beautiful and everyone we passed on the road said “hi” – they are such friendly people.
Sadly our time at the Sandals La Source Resort was over all too quickly and we had to say goodbye to some of the nicest people we have ever met on holiday both amongst the guests and the staff. It was a perfect Honeymoon in a beautiful place (and we both shed a little tear on the way to the airport) –but we are planning to return – the sooner the better!
A big thank you to Lesley at Travel by Lesley for, not just suggesting the amazing Sandals La Source Resort in the first place, but organising everything to the last detail so that we could have a wonderful, stress free honeymoon – a real holiday of a lifetime!
