The Waldorf Astoria Dubai - unpretentious elegance

The Australian Adventure had ended but we still had a few days to chill out and relax in Dubai.

When you have been away for 7 weeks and you are flying home from Australia, the last thing you want to do is fly straight home, if you are going to have jet-lag, then why not relax in scrumptious surroundings and glorious sunshine and having worked there as a Holiday Representative a few years ago, Dubai was the perfect answer.

The Wardorf Astoria is located on the iconic Palm Jumeriah island, which can be seen from space, and was the perfect spot for a relaxing stay.

There is building work going on the Palm but to be honest that can be said for most of Dubai and will continue until 2020.

On arrival we received a wonderful welcome from the concierge and whisked straight to the glass lift and up to the 5th floor where the Waldorf Astoria Lounge is located and it was here that we were checked in.  We were staying in a King Deluxe Suite with sea-view which was located on the 5th floor with fantastic views over the Burj Al Arab and the Dubai Skyline.

Our suite was amazing, we walked in to a very large lounge area with plenty of seating and a large TV, this led to the bedroom with a king sized bed that was so comfortable we fought against having a little siesta. The bathroom was huge with a large bath where you could watch TV whilst you soaked.  The shower had not just one but two rain head showers in it so you could have showers together and our double balcony had a sunbed for catching the early morning sunshine before heading down to the pool or beach.  The dressing gowns are some of the most comfortable and scrumptious to wear.

The Waldorf Astoria is not a big hotel in Dubai standards with just over 300 rooms.  It still offers all the facilities you would want including six restaurants and lounges, a supervised Kids Club, Fitness Centre and Spa as well as plenty of land and water activities from tennis to paddle-boarding which your Personal Concierge will book for you.

Waldorf Astoria Lounge

This is certainly worth it.  You get the papers in here daily and its a more relaxed location to enjoy breakfast. The staff are on hand to help you with literally anything you want or need.

The Waldorf Astoria Lounge has many benefits and is open daily from 0700 - 2130.

Breakfast               0700hrs - 1100hrs
Afternoon Tea         1500hrs - 1700hrs
Evening Cocktails    1700hrs - 2000hrs
Canapes Buffet       1800hrs - 2000hrs

Guys have to wear long trousers in the evenings for the lounge as well as most of the restaurants and after our time in Australia it was nice to get dressed up a little.

We loved the eggs benedict in the mornings, the open sandwiches and the freshly made scones with jam and cream during afternoon tea, but my hubby and I always had the conversation of should the jam or cream go on first!!

Evening cocktails were lovely and the perfect way to watch the sunset over the Palm. I would say my two favourite cocktails were the Mojito and the Amaretto Sour, my hubby tried most of them but settled on a vodka martini - shaken not stirred!

And then you also get canapes in the evening too, the nachos were a favourite of ours.

Dining at the Waldorf Astoria

From delicious breakfasts, Friday Brunch, Vietnamese cuisine to contemporary Italian dining at Social which is lead by Michelin-starred chef Heinz Beck you will be spoilt for choice here. The hotels offers a weekly Beach BBQ.

We enjoyed mussels and chips at lunchtime at Palm Avenue as well as delicious Movenpick Ice cream by the pool.  The main restaurant Mezzerie offers international fare as well as theme nights during the week.

The hotel can provide any dining experience for you and we often saw tables set up on the beach all ready for romantic dining with a view over the Palm as the sun set.

What to do at the hotel?

There are two swimming pools at the hotel both are climate controlled, the main pool has an area for children and is very popular with families whilst the quieter adult only pool was more to our tastes, there is even a Jacuzzi if you fancy it.

The beach and pool service is excellent and their are lifeguards located on the beach, you can order any kind of drinks, lunch and even shisha to be brought to your beach/pool sunbed.

It was always easy to get a sunbed by the pool or on the 200 metres of private beach that the hotel has, the sunbeds were comfortable and the beach concierge set it all up for you with beach and pool towels and bring you over an ice bucket of bottled water to keep you hydrated

The Water Sports Centre offers a great choice from stand up paddle boarding, snorkelling, kayaking, scenic boat trips around the Palm and the Burj Al Arab and pedal boats as well as windsurfing and water skiing.

The Water Sports Center is located adjacent to the hotel's main swimming pool from 0900 - sunset.

Chill out on the beach and watch a movie under the stars - there is as much or as little as you want to do at the Waldorf Astoria, one thing I know for sure is that it was the most relaxing time for my husband and I after a busy and wonderful trip to Australia and that I didn't want to leave, which is always a good sign for me.

If you want to go out and enjoy Dubai there is a complimentary shuttle bus that takes you to Aquaventure and Mall of the Emirates however there are plenty of others places to visit, Dubai is much more than just a concrete jungle full of shops!

If you wish to venture out and try some excursions then check out the trips Desert Adventures who we had previously done a 4 wheel drive dune bashing excursion with.

Events & Weddings

We got a tour of the Royal Suite, located on the top floor and has views over both the Palm and the Dubai skyline.  It's the perfect location for an event or party or even a wedding, whilst it only has 2 bedrooms it can hold around 300 people.

They also have two wonderful locations that they can hold weddings within the grounds which are just fantastic for wedding or party celebrations.

Whatever the occasion the Waldorf Astoria Palm Dubai is a wonderful hotel and the perfect place to relax and unwind on a beach holiday or twinned with another destination. It really does tick all the boxes for a relaxing hotel.

We stayed at the Waldorf Astoria in January 2019 for 3 nights on Bed & Breakfast on our way back from Sydney with Emirates.
